This project is a way to promote youth inclusion in the tourism sector in New Caledonia by developing both their linguistic and professional skills.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
PROJECT: Mobility as a Vector towards Inclusion in Tourism (MOVE IT)
DEADLINE: 4th March 2015
SUMMARY:
New Caledonia is a secluded island which suffers from high rates of low-skilled adults and unemployment among youngsters. Mobility has become a key-factor towards inclusion, yet the geographic isolation of these islands causes a serious brake towards it. Moreover, New Caledonian youngsters often have many prejudices and fears when it comes to leaving their island. New Caledonia is among the largest producers of nickel in the world and is facing a double challenge: to exploit a significant mineral resource capable of providing the country a major economic development and to protect its unique biodiversity.
Tourism is a developing sector in New Caledonia but it lacks actors who have had the opportunity to go abroad and get to learn from other types of tourism development and see new methods and types of tourists. This project is complementarity to another project called Mobility Island, created by MIJ, which aims to promote tourism sector in the field of hospitality and gives the opportunity for young people with fewer opportunities to do traineeships in 4 islands in Europe. The environment preservation is important in New Caledonia and since nickel is a limited fossil resource, it will be even more important in a near future. MIJ is the biggest organization for youth inclusion in New Caledonia and would like to develop environment awareness among young people with fewer opportunities through cooperation with European partners. This project is a way to promote youth inclusion in the tourism sector in New Caledonia by developing both their linguistic and professional skills.
