Mental health challenges like stress, anxiety, loneliness, and burnout are now everyday realities for young people across Europe, impacting their wellbeing.
Mental health and well-being have become one of the most pressing issues affecting young people across Europe. Stress, anxiety, loneliness, burnout, and feelings of uncertainty are no longer exceptional experiences but increasingly common realities in young people’s daily lives.
Young people today grow up under multiple and overlapping pressures. Academic expectations and performance anxiety, job precarity and financial instability, climate-related fears, and intensive use of digital technologies shape how they perceive the world and themselves. Social media and online environments, while offering opportunities for connection, also contribute to comparison, cyberbullying, sleep deprivation, and emotional overload.
Studies conducted at European level show that a large proportion of young people feel worried about the future, experience eco-anxiety, and report symptoms of stress and depression.
The main aim of this Youth Exchange is to support young people’s mental well-being and resilience by using solution-focused, strength-based, and non-formal learning approaches that empower them to cope with stress, anxiety, and uncertainty in healthy and constructive ways.
Rather than focusing solely on problems, the exchange places young people at the centre as active participants, encouraging them to recognise their strengths, talents, coping strategies, and personal resources.
Specific Objectives
The project aims to:
Increase young people’s awareness of the main factors affecting their mental well-being, such as:
academic pressure and exam-related stress,
uncertainty about future employment and financial stability,
climate anxiety and fears about the future,
overuse of technology, social media, and digital games.
Help young people develop self-awareness, emotional literacy, and stress management skills.
Promote solution-focused thinking, shifting attention from problems to possibilities, strengths, and resources.
Encourage peer support, solidarity, and open dialogue about mental well-being in a stigma-free environment.
Strengthen young people’s sense of purpose, confidence, and agency in shaping their own lives.
