Master the SiD method from TU Berlin. A Training Course for youth workers to teach critical thinking through immersive simulations.
In a polarized world full of populism and disinformation, traditional "fact-checking" is not enough. Manipulation operates on emotions, not just data. To protect young people, we need to shift from passive lectures to active "cognitive immunization," focusing on human psychology and social engineering.
THE METHOD: The training is based on the Simulation & Debriefing (SiD) methodology, successfully taught at the Technical University of Berlin. It operates on the Experiential Learning Cycle (Kolb's cycle):
Immersion (The Game): Participants enter designed analog simulations. Examples include:
"Sunny Beach" – A game about financial fraud, testing greed and social conformity.
"The Courtroom" – Distinguishing rhetorical persuasion from hard facts.
"Titanic" – Decision making under extreme pressure and moral dilemmas.
Debriefing (The Reflection): A structured process where the trainer helps participants analyze their own reactions and emotions to understand how they were influenced.
OBJECTIVES: By the end of the course, participants will:
Understand the psychological pillars of manipulation: authority, scarcity, social proof, and fear.
Learn how to facilitate the SiD method and conduct professional debriefing sessions.
Gain a toolkit of ready-to-use scenarios adaptable to different cultural contexts.
Develop skills to strengthen youth resilience against scams, radicalization, and peer pressure.
PROFILE OF PARTICIPANTS:
We are looking for youth workers, teachers, trainers, and educators who:
Work directly with youth (13-30 y.o.).
Are interested in psychology, sociology, and non-formal education methods.
Are ready to actively participate in role-playing and simulations.
Want to become certified practitioners of the SiD method.
