iDEMO designed a training course to improve capacity of youth workers to work with marginalized groups in the EU area affected by migrant and refugee crisis.
Considering that it is crucial to develop a culture of youth participation in all aspects of life, especially regarding social inclusion processes that are direct concern and interest of societies affected by the immigration, iDEMO Institute for Democracy decided to design an innovative training course that aims to improve the capacity of youth workers to work with marginalized groups in the EU area affected by the migrant and refugee crisis to more or less extent.
All youth workers are trainers as well as leaders. They do and they lead with what and how they do. Leadership on personal and organisational level is required in times when intercultural and inter-religious dialogue is needed, at the same time being a powerful tool to encourage young people.
The training course “Leaders for Change” is designed to give youth workers skills, methods and competences for empowering, building and teaching leadership skills that can be used to reach out to marginalised young people with intention to prevent and decrease drastic radicalisation of societies in Europe. The aim is to train youth workers to work with endangered and marginalised groups so that young people are prepared to work with culturally diverse targeted population, taking into account all challenges of multicultural, multiethnical, multireligious and changing society in the 21st century.
During the training course, the participants will look into different concepts of leadership and practice through case studies. They will be offered concrete and useful tools, techniques and methods that youth workers can use to help them personally and professionally in their work with young people and marginalizes groups in general. There will be space for experience sharing and to find common ground but also how to use and transfer knowledge to youth they work with. All work will be focused on how to tailor gained knowledge to serve their communities and prevent and overcome misunderstanding and barriers that are raising in nowadays societies. The participants will also be trained in the area of personal and social competences as important basis for authentic leadership.
The training course will be held in Zagreb, Croatia in late September 2017 and it will gather 25 participants (training team included).
