Language Village

Learn new languages with social interaction and intercultural cooperation

The importance given to foreign language learning is relatively low in Turkey when compared to other European countries. Also, foreign language teaching in public schools is limited to English. Young people are not aware of other languages. Only very few privileged young people have a chance to reach these languages. However, there are many languages in the world and we should benefit from them. Thanks to this project, young people will have a chance to meet different people speaking different languages from different cultures. Throughout this project, young people from different counties will gather in Erzurum, Turkey for seven days and also two travel days. They will share their cultures and languages. They will have a chance to cooperate internationally, learn about a different culture. Also, youngsters will be aware of the importance of foreign language learning and language teaching. On the first day of mobility in Turkey, each participating country will set up a booth and group leaders will promote their languages to the participants. They will try to get attention to the participants to make them choose their language course. Participants will decide on a language that they want to learn. Group leaders will make a list of the participants of their language course. The next day they will teach their language to the participants according to the choices in their own classrooms. The language teaching will be at A1-A2 (beginner level). By the help language teaching and language teaching, youngsters will be aware of their talents and this will promote their self-awareness.
