Lake / Food / Community

Sustainable lifestyles in Pogradec through local food culture, fishermen traditions and youth engagement in the Ohrid Lake UNESCO region.

We are looking for partners to develop a project focused on sustainable lifestyles, local food culture and community engagement in Pogradec, Albania, part of the Ohrid Lake UNESCO region.
The project builds on the strong connection between people, place and tradition, with a particular focus on local fishermen communities, their knowledge, daily life and relationship with the lake.
It aims to explore traditional food practices, cooking culture and intangible heritage as part of a broader sustainable lifestyle, while addressing current challenges such as tourism pressure, environmental impact and the need for sustainable local development.
The project will include a research and learning component, documenting local knowledge and exploring how traditional practices can inform contemporary sustainable lifestyles.
Activities may include workshops, storytelling, community-based experiences and exchanges, with a strong focus on engaging young people and creating meaningful learning experiences between urban and rural contexts.
The idea is rooted in long-term local experience in working with communities, cultural heritage and sustainable development, including practical work in public space and tourism-related initiatives.
The initiator of the project is an architect with extensive experience in urban development, environmental projects and community-based interventions, bringing a multidisciplinary approach that connects space, culture and sustainability.
A specific focus of the project is the Mediterranean diet as a lifestyle, promoting healthy, local and sustainable food practices connected to culture, environment and community well-being.
We are interested in partners working in the fields of sustainability, education, food systems, cultural heritage and youth engagement.
