Cooperation between authorities and youth and sport organisations: engagement of young people in sport activities and community life.
Sport and physical activity are essential for improving health and well-being in society and can play a significant role in initiating community changes if used as tools with educational purpose for work with young people. Sport organisations and clubs play a crucial role in encouraging and engaging people to get physically active. On the other hand, non-formal education practitioners all over Europe are not much aware on how to use sport and physical activity in order to achieve social transformations in their local communities. Therefore, this project aims at presenting the Education through sport methodology to a number of non-formal education practitioners and helping them and all their target groups to make better use of sport and physical activity in their daily work with youth.
The project will enrich the working capacity of the participating organization by training their staff for using the Education through sport methodology and will develop a quality framework for using it in their daily activities. Best practices regarding the use of sport and physical activity as tools for enhancing active youth participation and healthy behaviour will be shared. the long term benefits of the project include the development of an international strategic collaboration for increasing the recognition of sport as an educational tool for NGO workers and the benefits which the process could bring to society. The current project is a step towards a cooperation which on a long term basis would impact the EU society on a larger scale and would be a way to deal efficiently with health issues, youth unemployment, as well as with problems of social exclusion or school dropout.
