JAMO EVS Sending

We are looking for short-term EVS (around 6 weeks), between May and December 2014. The activities would be adapted to young people with fewer opportunities

Leo Lagrange Nord offers to all, from the early childhood to older, educational activities. It’s not restricted to propose consumption leisure or “occupations”. It seeks to provide all the same access to knowledge, in line with the republican principles of justice and equality. In intervention areas as different as sports, cultural activities, consumer protection, fight against discrimination, training and volunteer work, international mobility, etc. Leo Lagrange implements its project through actions on the ground in the region. We developed a European action called START from 2008 to nowadays. This action is for young people with less opportunity including social and educational difficulties.

Our aim is to work for their inclusion thanks to a training course, an employment and more specially a European exchange. In France, through an enhanced role in support to socio-professional youth projects, we have been able to prepare and send in Europe, about 350 young people. We have worked on EVS and Leonardo Da Vinci program.

With a first participation in the EVS with Inter Exchange from 2009 to 2011, Leo Lagrange Nord wishes in 2012, to extend its remit to Europe, becoming a recognized organization by the European Youth Programme in Action, both in sending or hosting volunteers on the coordination of the EVS. This recognition allow us to support a larger number of youth in the north of France on EVS projects, but also to host European volunteers from among its members, to strengthen the cohesion of action.

We are looking for short-term EVS (around 6 weeks), between May and December 2014.

Young people having various backgrounds, they are motivated and open to all types of themes and activities: Art and culture, Youth information, children, environment, education through sport and outdoors activities, European awareness, media and communication…

The activities would be adapted to young people with fewer opportunities, and the Youthpass should be asked for each young.

Project overview

JAMO EVS Sending is a project by
Léo Lagrange Nord
taking place
from 2014-01 till 2015-11
This project relates to:
Action 1.1 (Youth Exchanges), Action 2 (European Voluntary Service), Action 4.3 (Training and Networking)
and is focusing on:
  • Democracy/Active citizenship
  • Entrepreneurship
  • European citizenship
  • EVS volunteer wanted
  • Integration
  • Media and communication
  • Non-formal learning
  • Unemployment/employability
  • Volunteering
  • Youth policy
This project can include young people with fewer opportunities like
  • Social obstacles
  • Economic obstacles
  • Educational difficulties
  • Cultural differences
  • Geographical obstacles
Targeted youth are aged between 18 and 30, unemployed of short or long term, with few or no qualifications. They have some difficulties to project themselves. All the youth live in the north of France and wish to participate to a European project. The majority of young stems of partitioned environments, neighbourhoods classified as sensitive, often affected in terms of employment, facilities ... On the outside, these settlements are seen in a very pejorative that can lead to some form of discrimination. They often have little access to culture, either for financial reasons or because they are not aware. Indeed, they are poorly informed or interested in events closer to home. They are not always aware of appropriate tariffs they should receive (free student rate, culture checks, tickets, entertainment ...). They need opportunities to get open-minded and to be engaged in a citizenship approach and get involved in an intercultural project. According to the definition adopted by the European Commission, these youth are defined as "the Young Having fewer opportunities" or "JAMO". But this expression is to be handled with caution as too restrictive. Indeed, she joined the difficulties of professional, economic, cultural, geographical, social, or on their physical and / or mental. The majority of the youth are still living with their parents. Before their EVS, they will all benefit of a linguistic, cultural and pedagogical training (each day of a week during 3 or 4 months). But they will need, during the EVS, to be mentored and put in trust. In fact, they can be proactive and gain autonomy if the framework of the host is reassuring. Future volunteers will have different profiles. They will be men and women, but they will all need to gain autonomy and maturity. For them to be engageg in an EVS project will allow them to open their minds, to discover another culture, another country, to discover themselves. All have skills and qualities that can be used in a project but few are aware of it.
