Inter-clusion of refugees

Explore in great detail the refugees issue and create an innovative and common strategy to assist these people, mainly with the mediterranean countries.

“One can probably bring about some improvement by starting at the verbal end” (G. Orwell, Politics and the English Language, 1946).
Understanding the background and cultural heritage of the migrant is far more important than getting to know their language. Thus, at a European level, to obtain a proper integration of refugees it is not sufficient taking into account the situations happening at the borders, but also go beyond the reasons that cause the continuous flow of more and more people to the borders themselves.
Only though the observation of the singular experience of an immigrant, his/her trip, his/her origin, because it is trivial resolve a humanitarian problem without a deeper understanding of the inner workings and the main elements characterizing this type of social issue, not to mention the proper identification of its original source.
This is the reason for the name, “Inter-clusion of refugees”, to promote not only their “inclusion” in the civil society, but also their effective and meaningful “integration” in the local culture.
This project wants to analyze the different situations faced by the refugees, starting from their traveling to the actual assistance at the borders, while also considering the several troubles migrants face during their trips. We will explore the reasons that force these people to leave their countries and their belongings to undertake such a journey to Europe, full of uncertainties and mostly brought by a hope to change their life or to escape from unstable socio-political conditions. Going thought the traditional model of inclusion, the project will further define alternative strategies to foster the integration of these people in their hosting countries, especially considering the caveats that often happen when trying to speed up these processes.
The project will specifically involve 21 youth workers who are actively involved into this topic and who are willing to put into discussion their working methods, confronting with their colleagues oversea and to define a common strategy of assistance and welcoming of migrants throughout the mediterranean port to Europe, that consists mainly of Italy, Turkey, Spain and Greece; these countries are the ones mainly affected by immigrators flow of people, from coasts to outsider borders.
Thanks to the involvement of local institutions and the presence of refugees themselves in the daily activities, it will be possible to explore not only the best practices into this area but also to consider the needs, expectations and objectives of refugees themselves, as they are, at first, people. Over the training we foresee participants to share their experiences and knowledge to create, at the end of the project, a handbook where best practices and common assistance plans will be outlined for the benefit all those organizations working with refugees.
At the end of the project, after different occasion of discussion and a working group, participants are going to write a proposal for an alternative model of integration for their local communities and their local administration bordering the Mediterranean Sea (starting for example by the best-pratice of Riace). A joint venture among partners organizations will be the starting point to commonly create a strategic action plan and improve together the efforts to properly address the needs of this new category of migrants.
