Ich bin Ich – Zeitschrift für Kinder von Kinder

The department “Childcare Centers” of Red Cross Luxembourg is looking for a volunteer for the project “Ich bin Ich – Zeitschrift für Kinder von Kinder” for the deadline of the 30th April 2014. The project consists in that children from the age of 2 months to 12 years are producing a newspaper. The volunteer has to support the children and has to coordinate the project.
It is foreseen that the activity will start on 1st October 2014 and has a duration of 12 months.
Red Cross Luxembourg is managing 4 childcare centers for young children from the age of 2 months to 4 years and 13 childcare centers for children from the age of 4 to 12. The department “Childcare Centers” of Red Cross Luxembourg is occupying around 240 employees and 2200 children are subscribed.
The childcare centers are in charge of the non-formal, extracurricular education and care of children from the age of 2 month to 12 years.
Task of the volunteer:
• Helping the children of the childcare centers to produce their own newspaper, by supporting them in writing texts, choosing stories and themes, making photos, …
• Designing, creating a layout for the newspaper
• Coordinating the production of the newspaper
• Distribution of the newspaper
• To promote the European values and the European idea in the childcare centers
• To promote the EVS inside Red Cross Luxembourg
The profile of the volunteer:
• Able to work autonomously on the project
• Very good writing and speaking skills in German language
• Aged between 18 and 30 years
• Facility in working and communicating with children
• A clean police record
• IT skills in design and graphics is an advantage
• Basic skills in child-pedagogics is an advantage

The volunteer will be the only volunteer in the department "Childcare centers", for that reason she/he has to be able to work autonomously and has to show sense of initiative. In the project the volunteer has to travel to the different childcare centers. As the centers are distributed in the whole country, the volunteer should be accordance of travelling a lot by public transport.

We are offering you a learning experience in a huge organization with a lot of different aspects and possibilities. You are lodged in Bertrange near to the center of Luxembourg-City, next to your workplace. The volunteer will participate in trainings on how to handle and to manage the software of designing newspapers. The volunteer will have the opportunity to make suggestions to the project.
The mentor worked for around 4 years in the National Agency “Youth in action” of Luxembourg. The Red Cross Luxembourg is experienced in working with international volunteers. The volunteer will be supported by the mentor in his/her learning process, in the organizational and logistical aspects in the project. The mentor is also supporting his/her integration into the Luxemburgish society.
The volunteer will have the opportunity to meet other volunteers which are working in other departments of Red Cross Luxembourg.
