HUMAN LIBRARY

The HUMAN LIBRARY project is promoted by the Movimentazioni Association engaged for years in youth policies, social and cultural rights. Immigration is now an important issue to think about and we have to imagine interventions.

The growing number of refugees and immigrants in European countries makes it necessary interventions that help to create a climate of trust based on knowledge, if possible, direct immigrants to understand their cultures, their histories, their traditions.
The use of the "Human Library" could help us to overcoming barriers of ignorance about immigration through a nonviolent practice based on listening to the other. The immigrant is a book with its own history and the listener is a reader hearing his story and trying to understand his point of view.

Progress :

With our european partners, we want to work around the way to use a Human Library involving students from high school or university and about immigration thematic with a special focus on refugees. All the associations involved in the project will meet twice.

A first preparation meeting will take place with the others participating associations to talk about common goals to prepare the Human Library.
After this first meeting every association will have the duty to organise a Human Library in their countries about the chosen topic.

After this experience, it will take place a second meeting where every association will share the results in order to fix a method about the good practices which could be replicate in others places and others contexts.

Every association will come to this meeting with a delegation composed of representatives of different target group : one student, one teacher, one representative from the association partner and one representative from the receiving refugees association.

The last day will be dedicated to the presentation of final results of these days and of a synthetic video filmed by each association during the Human Library. Moreover, an explanatory guide about how to realise a Human Library will be produced during these days.
It will be very important to replicate Human Library in others contexts such as libraries, schools, associations.
