GONLEG Footbol Turkey-France

The worlds of football and theatre produce spectacles in which the aesthetics, issues and social resonances seem completely at odds. We undertook this piece about football as a way to conceive of a form of interdisciplinary show capable of regrouping the audiences of these two disciplines and sharing their aspirations.

It is for this reason that we brought together 22 footballers, supporters and theatrical artists from France and Turkey to work over the course of one year to produce a theatre piece. This was presented in Istanbul and then in Montreuil; in theatres and football stadia.

At the end of the experience, an analysis was published, which drew together the evolution of our methods of working in theatre via this encounter with the world of football, what we had understood of football culture and the values which are common to these two domains.
