A project involving school-pupil-parent in education to reduce student absenteeism and early school dropout.
To ensure the continuation of 60 students who are absent over 10 days. To solve the problems of absenteeism and adaptation to the school where students of EAGHS have some parents with traditional sexist molds frequently asking help with house chores and babysitting of their siblings. Ensure that the parents are aware of the importance of attendance to school and that the students and the parents see themselves as a part of the school through various educational practices and social activities; to enable teachers have the required skills to support students at risk. This is a problem of all European countries and the European 2020 Strategic objectives refer to the early school dropout. Therefore; to share the good examples with the international approach, disciplines and cooperation between countries; to apply these examples and to create a model study in our school by preventing absenteeism and early school dropout; to spread this work to the districts, provinces and school principals in general are other expected results.
Determination of students who are absent over 10 days in attendance, access to the students of these students, application of the reasons for absentee survey by school guidance teachers; evaluation of the results of the survey, visiting students at risk with classroom guidance counselor, school manager and a teacher. In order to enable the teachers to reach the students more effectively in the classroom, opening a workshop called 'Actor Teacher Workshop' for the teachers. Holding 'Effective Parents' Management 'seminars for parents and Effective Classroom Management seminars for teachers by experts who have written books on this subject. Once a month, social activities should be held in the school with parents, students, teachers to see themselves as part of their school life. Broadcasting of posters, brochures, public spot, short films, and social experiments, street events, promotional meetings to be held in other schools, festivals and fair works. A bilingual public spot with our partner teachers, and a bilingual magazine. The creation of a multilingual website with the partner country for the project. Providing scholarships and social support to the students and their families who are absent due to economic difficulties and the establishment of school graduates and various NGOs, and the free use of school canteen for these students. To share and experience good examples in the local region, the international approach, disciplines and international cooperation to prevent early school dropout, which is a problem, not only of our country but also of all European countries mentioned in European 2020 Strategic objectives.
It is a known fact that hundreds of students leave school each year before completing their secondary school program. It is a risk for the student to be separated from the school for any reason other than the normal duration, and poses a social risk as well. With this project, our goal is to reduce the school dropout in our school during the first year of this project, and to remove this risk by reaching students who are at risk of early school dropout. It is our aim to take preventive and minimizing measures at school for the early dropout problem that leads to multiple risks for the individual, society and the whole world. In addition to this, the result of research on 478 high school students in Ankara in 2009-2010, revealed that the relationship between antisocial behaviors and school abandonment changed with teacher support (Arif Özer, Dilek Gençtanırım, Tuncay Ergene: Prediction of School Dropout in Turkish High School Students: A Model Test with Intermediaries and Interaction Variables) Teacher support is crucially important in the problem of school dropout. Therefore, our teachers can be taught in Prague "precautions to be taken in relation to Early School Teaching" based on tolerance, observation, cultural transfer, development of language skills and thus ensure that the students from different sub-structures in the internationalized world get equal opportunity and receive quality education. The measures taken in relation to the students at risk in our partner school and the work done are observed in situ and the atmosphere of cooperation is improved.
With this visit, our other goal is to increase our teachers' multilingual communication skills, to improve their speaking skills and to ensure intercultural interaction. It is also our aim to transfer the knowledge gained during this activity, good examples and acquired experiences to the school environment. The development and investment of education and human resources in the 21st century is important for the economic and social development of countries. Acquiring the knowledge, values and skills needed at the global level can ensure that young people receive quality education at all levels and can sustain it in compliance with 2020 Strategic goals. The purpose of the project is overcome and eliminate school dropout obstacle.
