Fighting multiply discrimination (working title)

The project is a network building activity between organisations working with migrants and organisations promoting the rights of the LGBTI community

Since 2011 Arcigay Palermo offers counselling and support for migrant people who belong to the LGBTI community. During these years, the organisation realized that the support for their integration has to go beyond local and national level. Since LGBTI migrants suffer from multiply discrimination, their situation is complex and has to be debated at international level, given the fact that they are in continuous move before settling in a country. This issue calls for a transnational cooperation, establishing a network between organisations in order to be able to accompany and support migrants beyond borders.

As we stated above, the difficulties this target group has to face are multiply, thus we want to tackle them from different sides. Obstacles are:
- lack of access to information on support, due to language difficulties
- lack of confidence and autonomy of migrants to look for support due to social pressure from their communities
- discrimination from both sides: from the side of migrant communities discrimination based on sexual orientation; and from the side of LGBTI communities ratial and ethnic discrimination
- lack of professional competencies of supporting staff: a) youth workers and social workers working with migrants b) youth workers/social workers working with the LGBTI community
- lack of international understanding on how to demonstrate sexual orientation in a moral way in order to receive international protection for asylum seekers

The project aims to build a network between organisations in order to improve their capacities to tackle these issues.
