Fake news & Critical thinking - Youth Media Literacy & Religious Diversity

FA&TH is a 5-day program boosting critical thinking and media literacy to tackle religion-related misinformation and promote respect for religious diversity.

The main objective of the FA&TH project is to support the development of key competences among young trainers aged 18 to 25 in the field of media and information literacy (MIL). The project aims to equip participants with practical tools that enhance their technical, social, and creative skills, enabling them to navigate digital environments more effectively and to critically and responsibly analyse the information they consume online.
In a context where social media and digital platforms have become the primary sources of information and expression for young people, fostering critical thinking is more important than ever. Young people are not only consumers of digital content but also active creators and disseminators of information. FA&TH therefore seeks to raise awareness of the risks associated with the lack of critical analysis, such as the spread of misinformation, fake news, and misleading or harmful narratives. At the same time, the project highlights the responsibility that comes with producing and sharing accurate, ethical, and reliable information.
What makes this project particularly distinctive is its specific focus on media and information literacy in relation to religion. In an increasingly polarised media landscape, biased narratives and misinformation are often addressed in relation to topics such as gender or migration, while religion is rarely explored with the same critical depth. As a result, religious diversity is frequently portrayed through stereotypes or simplified perspectives, contributing to misunderstanding and social division.
Through FA&TH, participants are encouraged not only to develop general MIL skills, but also to critically examine how religious issues are represented in both traditional and digital media. The project seeks to challenge misinformation related to religion, deconstruct prejudices, and promote more inclusive, balanced, and respectful narratives that support intercultural dialogue, peaceful coexistence, and social cohesion.
