environmental education seminar

We will work under the central theme and the study of water and its traditional use since the Muslim era, and how it affects the conservation of natural spaces

THE WATER, THE BLOOD OF THE FORESTS.
The National and Natural Park of Sierra Nevada, in Granada-Almeria, Andalusia, Spain, is a unique place for its environmental, geographical, landscape and historical characteristics.
The southern slope, known as the Alpujarra, is a group of small millenary villages that preserve ancestral traditions and unique natural landscapes. In one of those small towns, Bérchules, we find the only Environmental Education Center of the Alpujarra Granadina.
This is the place chosen as the basis for the meeting of this project, although there will be different visits and departures including Granada capital.
Main goal:
The main objective is to share experiences of work in environmental education with young people among the participating partners, and to elaborate a series of activities around a same theme, which allows us to meet and compare the different ecosystems and customs of the countries. participants, working on a motivating project for young people that does not resign to active actions (outings, camping ...) but integrates a part of research in the groups of young participants. We will try to ensure that all the participating teams have carried out some initial research and activity before the meeting in the Alpujarra, and in this it can be put in common and from there, end the meeting with a basic framework document to organize activities of environmental education motivating and investigating with the groups of young people with whom we work as organizations.
We will work under the central theme and the study of water and its traditional use since the Muslim era, and how it affects the conservation of natural spaces (using as example the National and Natural Park of Sierra Nevada in particular), from the borreguiles, streams and rivers, even structures and man-made customs such as the network of ditches, rafts ... The Alpujarra is a reference in this sense, largely due to the long presence of Muslims in the area, who made a spectacular system of Irrigation that carried water to every corner of the Alpujarras, creating and maintaining the life of the forests and ecosystems of the area and its natural wealth.
