Insularity and creative expression, through a journey of artistic residencies that combines art, filmmaking and the discovery of the world.
The project was born out of the desire to explore the connection between insularity, introspection, and artistic creation, through a journey of artistic residencies that combines filmmaking and the discovery of the world.
Starting from the idea that audiovisual work is not only a means of storytelling, but also a tool for inner research and connection with others, the project aims to offer a growth and exchange opportunity for emerging artists living in insular territories.
The project is designed to be carried out by two partners based on an island who are committed to enhancing their territory through art and culture.
Through a path of artistic residencies on two European islands, the project will involve six artists in a journey of research and cinematic experimentation that comes to life from the fusion of different artistic techniques according to the participants' skills.
During each residency, participants will take part in:
Training activities on audiovisual arts, with a focus on reality cinema, essay films, diary films, experimental cinema, and video art.
Artistic practice, research, and experimentation, with the goal of developing personal audiovisual works based on the techniques each artist brings to the table.
Experiences of discovery of the territory, including guided tours, meetings with the local community, and immersion in the cultural specifics of each island.
Public screenings of the works created.
The project’s approach is based on experimentation and the exploration of new expressive languages, encouraging the production of intimate, personal, and innovative works, allowing the authors to overcome traditional production barriers and develop their own authorial voice.
Diary of an Island fits within a broader context of artistic and cultural research, aiming to create connections between island communities and build a bridge between creative communities, overcoming the limitations imposed by geographical distance.
The isolation of those who live on an island is not only a physical condition, but also an emotional and cultural experience that deeply influences artistic production.
This project aims to turn this condition into an opportunity, providing artists with the tools to broaden their horizons, infuse their work with new influences, and offer an authentic and personal story through cinema.
Diary of an Island intends to be a journey of discovery and openness, taking authors outside their boundaries and then returning with new visions and fresh perspectives.
