Cultural Sustainability

The main topic of the Exchange will be cultural sustainability. This concept involves an innovative approach to the issue of sustainable development, since it considers culture as one of its pillars. On the one hand, because its national features need to be taken into account when planning for a development which respects communities as well as nature. But also for the reason that some specific concerns arise when dealing with the issue of how to balance the conservation of local traditions and culture with, in our case, the intercultural integration and creation of a sense of European citizenship.
The project will be hosted by the Municipality of Evrotas, in the region of Laconia. 30 young people from 5 different Mediterranean countries will come together in order to discuss and to learn about the topic of cultural sustainability. The methodology will be those of non-formal education: they will engage in different activities as group dynamics, debates, workshops or cultural visits, during which the challenges posed by the preservation of culture and environment in the context of globalization will be highlighted.
As a result, the participants will get to know their respective cultures while reflecting about their conservation and promotion in the multicultural context of European Union, as well as about their role in the planning of sustainable development in general. The locals will also benefit from the contact with foreign youngsters, which will be able to spread the result of their new acquired knowledge when back in their countries.
