CONSERVATION OF NATURAL AREAS IN CAMPANARIOS DE AZABA II

ACTIVITIES SVE CONSERVATIO NOF NATURAL AREAS IN CAMPANARIOS DE AZABA II The Campanarios de Azaba Biological Reserve is located in the province of Salamanca, in the cross-border area of Portugal and Spain. The location and characteristics of this enclave make it a privileged natural area for different species that find a favourable habitat in the meadows with Mediterranean forest. You will have the opportunity to participate in the monitoring and study of habitats, plant species and fauna. You will also participate in the management of the reserve, environmental education and communication and dissemination of the activities in social networks. In this way you will acquire knowledge about who the different ecosystems work, identification and of species. You will put into practice different methodologies of population study, you will know strategies for the recovery of species and the restoration of natural degraded areas attending to the management of the same and identifying the challenges as well as the solutions adopted.
Activities that volunteers can develop Biological Monitoring within the Life Club Project of Farms for the Conservation of the Iberian West. The LIFE project "Club de Fincas por la conservacion del Oeste Ibérico" (LIFE12 NAT / ES / 000595) aims to generate an improvement in the conservation status and surface area of the main habitats and species of the Iberian West. The conservation actions carried out in the project involve monitoring so that the information obtained from the state of conservation in which the species are found can be evaluated as well as the dangers they are facing.  Monitoring of habitats and plant species - Area estimation and monitoring of the conservation status of the main habitats included in the project - Evaluation and characterization of the current status of Mediterranean temporary ponds - Evaluation of the conservation actions carried out for the conservation of habitats of Dehesas Quercus spp. - Physicochemical analysis of water quality - Location of populations of invasive plant species  Wildlife monitoring  -Monitoring of wildlife populations associated with Mediterranean temporary ponds: Amphibian, terrapin, mammal, ungulate, carnivore lagomorphs, bird , day raptors, black stork, red partridge, wood pigeon, nocturnal raptor, nesting pairs of target species. - Monitoring of necrophagous birds in the network of or supplementary feed points of FNYH.  Evaluation of species management methods for the development of nature photography. Care, monitoring and maintenance of "hides" or observation hiding places.  Inventory and study of Lepidoptera and Odonatos in the Campanarios de Azaba Biological Reserve.  Population study of the ancestral threatened races of native cattle; Horses of the Retuertas and Sayaguesas Cows.  Management tasks in the Campanarios de Azaba Biological Reserve, administrative and operational headquarters of the FNYH projects in the Iberian West.  Environmental education tasks with groups of schoolchildren, university students and the local adult population through guided tours, workshops in education centres and associations, volunteer days, attendance at international fairs, etc.  Management of communication tasks and dissemination in social networks  Field work in our conservation area; reforestation tasks, water fresh ecosystem restoration, improvements of Mediterranean forest, etc.
Acommodation Volunteers will be staying at the Rural Tourism Center “La Estación” in Espeja, 10 km away of the reserve. http://reservabiologicacampanarios.es/alojamientos/posada-la-estacion/ You will have access to a common kitchen equipped with all appliances as well as common spaces you will share with the rest of volunteers. Transport to the work center will be ensured, either by bicycles or by an alternative means of transport. Pocket money will be provided according to the conditions set out in the Erasmus + Program, food, accommodation and local transportation costs will be also covered by the program. Volunteer’s profile There is no need for a specific educational profile but it is desirable to show interest in issues related to the protection of nature as well as motivation to work in various tasks both outdoors and indoors. It is important to find yourself comfortable in living in rural and remote areas.
