The main goal of this project is to help young people in the fight against climate change. The project will be aimed at youth and youth leaders (aged 15-22).
This project will implement a set of activities to help youth understand the impact of Climate Change in the world, to provide youth with concrete ideas and tools to fight climate change (recycling, zero-waste initiatives), to empower and support the youth to play an active role in the fight towards climate justice, and the promotion of social inclusion and to build and strengthen the necessary support structures for them to continue in youth activism.
On September 4, 2020, the highest temperature ever recorded in Cyprus, 46.2C, was measured in Athalassa. According to Cyprus national action program to combat desertification, 57 per cent of the territory “is in a critical situation with regard to the risk of desertification”. Participants will have the opportunity to find how climate change impacts Cyprus and what steps have been made (or need to be made) to reduce carbon emissions and slow down the rising temperatures.
The project will target youth as well as youth leaders (aged 15-22). Activities during the exchange visits will cover research on youth opinions and attitudes, workshops to promote eco-friendly practices as well as comprehensive training programs and visits to academic institutions researching sustainable energy alternatives.
