Euro-Mediterranean youth exchange: training, dialogue, and local actions to strengthen climate solidarity.
Project title: Bridging Through Climate Solidarity in the Euro-Mediterranean (Youth Exchange – KA152)
Summary:
We propose a Euro-Mediterranean youth exchange combining non-formal education, intercultural dialogue and local action to strengthen climate solidarity and active citizenship. The project engages young people (18–30) and youth leaders to build practical skills on climate justice, democratic participation, effective communication and the design of small-scale local actions, fostering cooperation between Mediterranean and EU communities.
Context and need:
The Euro-Mediterranean area is highly exposed to climate impacts (heatwaves, droughts, floods, wildfires, biodiversity loss) with strong social consequences and inequalities. Many young people want to act, but face barriers: low trust in civic effectiveness, polarisation, limited advocacy tools, and difficulties in turning awareness into concrete and sustainable initiatives. The exchange bridges awareness and action through a cooperative, solutions-oriented approach.
Objectives:
1) Strengthen climate literacy through a justice and solidarity lens.
2) Build civic participation and constructive dialogue skills (listening, mediation, teamwork).
3) Co-design replicable, low-impact local micro-actions.
4) Improve communication skills (storytelling, campaigning, addressing misinformation) and digital collaboration.
5) Create a Euro-Med network for continuity and follow-up cooperation.
6) Planned activities (non-formal learning methods):
7) Interactive workshops on climate crisis, climate justice and Euro-Med solidarity (case studies, role-plays, world café).
8) Intercultural dialogue and conflict-to-collaboration sessions.
9) Training on advocacy and democratic participation (engaging local decision-makers, alliance building, campaign planning).
10) Communication and digital workshops (clear messaging, visuals, responsible social media, basic fact-checking).
11) A structured meeting with the local municipality (e.g., relevant departments): dialogue on local priorities, participation tools and potential youth-led cooperation.
12) Co-design of local micro-actions: goals, stakeholders, resources, communication, evaluation and risk management.
13) Final public action/event at local level and a coordinated dissemination plan among partners.
Expected results:
1) Increased competences (validated through Youthpass).
2) An “Euro-Med Climate Solidarity Toolkit” with activities, micro-action templates and reusable communication materials.
3) One micro-action per partner (or per national group) implemented after the exchange, supported by online follow-up.
4) Stronger cooperation among organisations and new joint project ideas.
Participant profile:
Young people aged 18–30 (with group leaders/youth workers) interested in climate, civic engagement, local communities, communication and international cooperation. We welcome participants with fewer opportunities through reasonable and realistic support (sustainable pace, organisational support, educational guidance).
Partner organisations we are looking for:
Youth organisations/NGOs, informal groups or institutions willing to work with youth (PIC/OID available or ready to activate) with experience or strong motivation in non-formal education, civic engagement and sustainability. Partners will support: recruitment and preparation, co-facilitation, dissemination, and the implementation of a local micro-action in their community.
