Küçükçekmece, where the Local Development Strategies and Research Association operates, is the second most populous district of Istanbul. Küçükçekmece is home to approximately 3,000 of the more than 300,000 associations operating throughout Istanbul. The vast majority of civil society organizations are fellow countrymen associations founded by communities that migrated from Anatolia to Istanbul 50 years ago. The fellow countrymen associations operate mostly as solidarity communities based on regional nationalism. However, there are also many qualified civil society organizations. The list of these is below. The associations in question will be selected from civil society organizations that are involved in Küçükçekmece’s strategic planning process and convey their ideas of participation to local government.
