Chess is my Path to Universal Understanding

Overall aim:
To improve capacities and empower youth people to make positive choices that will enhance their future lives, using non-formal education methodologies. Furthermore this programme will focus on peer-to-peer learning based on participants own experiences.

Objectives:
1) To allow 48 young people from diverse backgrounds to meet, learn from each other and develop strategies in order to cope with any challenges they may face.
2) To ensure that the diversity of the group, whether it be based on sexuality, economic status, academic ability or demographic factors, enhance the experience for all involved.
3) To support participants in developing soft skills and competences in combining both sports based and non-formal education perspectives.
4) To inspire the participants to educate their peers in various native sports and activities, whilst maintaining respect and dignity throughout.

The approach and methodology:
This programme is based on non-formal education, tool sharing and peer learning. Sports (chess) and activities will be used as tools to facilitate discussions. Personal development modules will also be built into the programme, which will allow participants to analyse the strengths they have and examine ways to build on these.

Target group:
Young people, aged between 14 and 18 whom, from diverse backgrounds, including those who may be deemed disadvantaged due to factors outside of their control.

Partner organisations – 3 being sought (ideal profile):
● Chess clubs
● Works in the field of youth work and non-formal education.
● Will disseminate the gained knowledge in their local communities / implement acquired knowledge in their work.
● Are ready to share their experiences by delivering some of the sessions during the programme.
Roles:
Coordinator organisation will be the Balıkesir Satranç İl Temsilciliği.
