"Be pARTicipatory -Share with Photos" YE

Youth with disadvantaged backgrounds are constantly at the risk of exclusion from society. To ensure their better social integration there is a strong need for developing competences on self-discovery, expression and communication. Personal and social development of these young people is an essential element of inclusive community development.

There are different methods to increase youth active participation and inclusion in society. And the ones proved to be innovative and successful in this field are the use of participatory photography (PP) and participatory video(PV) methodologies.

(PP) and (PV) methodologies are efficient tools for youth engagement, skill building and social innovation in the work with disadvantaged groups. They offer an opportunity for vulnerable individuals within a group to tell their own stories by sharing their personal point of view which can make an impact on their visual awareness, social change, creativity, critical thinking and personal growth.

PP and PV methodologies will give a voice to participants to record and reflect on their stories, strengths and challenges, stimulating them in finding their own solutions to problems that they have previously identified.

The project will promote dialogue between participants from different cultures on important issues through group discussion and a practical photo and video workshops.

Despite the usefulness and potential described above, participatory photography methods are not very wide spread especially in the EECA region and it would be therefore highly beneficial to implement this kind of activities in that region.

The proposed YE “Be pARTicipatory – Share with Photos” therefore wants to gather 40 young people from 8 countries who are interested in experiencing participatory photography practices.
