Alone in an foreign land… Free time activities for refugees

The project aims to exchange practices in organizing free time activities wchich could be also offered to migrants and asylum seekers.

People seeking an asylum in Europe often come here alone, with no relatives or friends. Even if they get a material support, meaning a place to sleep and basics goods, there is a long time between the moment of their arrival in Europe and a time when they can somehow accommodate and start a new life. Before getting a status of a refugee which widens possibilities, allows to work or study, often there are weeks of endless waiting.

For this project I would like to gather a few organizations, which have experience in organizing free time activities for youth and a few organizations which address their work to refugees. The aim of the project is to exchange experiences and ideas and think of activities which could be offered to refugees.

The topics of the seminar would include:

- Situation of refugees coming to Europe - basic facts and needs

- Possibilities of organizing free time implemented by various NGOs

- Various possibilities for refugees practiced in our countries (ex. sport, theaters, on-line universities)

- Developing new ideas for organizing time for young migrants and refugees

If the project will get founds, the seminar will take place in October 2016 in Poland. If your organization would be interested in taking part in the project by sharing your experience, please contact me by email: nkozik@adra.pl.
