Act Natural

Our project is about how we can encourage young people to spend time in nature rather than indoors, especially now that we are having a lock-down situation.

Young people today face some issues when it comes to accessing and connecting positively with nature. In todays society there are many stresses which mean it can be difficult for engagement or participation in the activities in nature. Now that we are struggling with coronavirus which makes the whole situation even harder, we are stuck in indoors and it challenges our usual habits. We cannot even take a walk in peace in a park. Young people are in the lockdown and even this quarantine is over, we do not know how to spend time outdoors. There is a lack of knowledge also whereby a significant number of young people don’t have the capacity or way of knowing how to survive or spend their time within nature; for example, how to make a fire or which plant is safe to eat. Moreover, there is real attention on saving nature and protecting it. While this is important, this in itself can create a barrier for young people where they are unable to enjoy their time and learn from it.

There is a belief that young people who learn to engage in their natural environments are happier and more accountable citizens. In this regard we want to raise awareness on the importancy of spending time in nature and increase basic survival skills at outdoors.
