A new alliance for schools and NGOs

The project aims to equip education and training systems to face challenges presented by COVID-19 emergency developing innovative digital pedagogical tools.

According to the latest report of the UN (August 2020), the covid-19 pandemic has created the largest disruption of education systems in history, affecting nearly 1.6 billion learners in more than 190 countries and all continents. Closures of schools and other learning spaces have impacted 94 per cent of the world’s student population, up to 99 per cent in low and lower-middle income countries. The crisis is exacerbating pre-existing education disparities by reducing the opportunities for many of the most vulnerable children and youth to continue their learning. In this scenario it is necessary to build resilient education systems for equitable and sustainable development and reimagine education accelerating changes in teaching and learning by equipping education systems to face the challenges presented by the recent sudden shift online and distance learning accessible for all. A crucial aspect in this process is represented by afterschool programs which can boost academic performance, reduce risky behaviours and provide a safe, structured environment for the children of working parents. As COVID-19 has temporarily changed the landscape of afterschool across the EU, our project wants to rebuild the foundation on which these types of programs are based to make them responsive, adaptable and flexible by developing an inclusive digital education readiness and to mitigating the impact of the crisis on young students, especially those who come from disadvantaged situations. For this reason, the project aims to equip education and training systems to face the challenges presented by the covid-19 emergency developing innovative digital pedagogical competences of educators and trainers and co-creating together high quality digital online resources and tools. The project will be based on a strong cross-sectorial alliance between the civil society and the school system. Therefore, the project’s objectives will be:
- to reinforce the ability of education and training institutions to provide high-quality learning opportunities to young students by developing high quality digital online resources and tools based on connected learning approach;
- to promote networking activities to connect the civil society and the school field by sharing resources, experience and collaborations with digital technology providers and experts in educational technologies and relevant pedagogical practice, improving solutions and creating adaptable tools for each school and afterschool environment;
