Youth Club "Stairs"

Our unit “Stairs” is one of the four club “House” units in Latvia. Our unit is the information intermediary about European Union to the local youth. We organize activities to raise awareness about events and opportunities offered by the EU. Thematic movie nights have become regular events, which gladly are visiting young people. We think that in future our ideas won’t stop and life of the unit will continue to sparkle!

Club „House” Gaujiena School unit „Stairs “, which offers 13 young people from the class10th-12th, this year celebrated 15 years anniversary. Our unit is the oldest Latvian unit, which continues to operate while many units have ceased to exist. During these 15 years of unit’s existence the number of participants has fluctuated from 24 to 9. Many things has done in 15 years of existence – organized the first Latvian club’s “House” camp in Gaujiena, organized the week of Europe, organized fellowship schools meeting with the debates about the European Union and motivating the youth activities, participation in camps in Baldone /Latvia/, held in the school erudite contest, held the door painting campaign, founded in cooperation with the German students in Ludersfeld, participation in the camp in Bonn /Germany/, organized traditional evenings “Come on my stairs …”, participation in “The Spring day of Europe”, established a new tradition that continues even now – thematic movie nights, participation and obtaining good results in many different competitions.

Things that were accomplished in this (already past) school year: the implementation of youth exchange project for the “Youth in action” program with Turkey, Romania, Italy, of youth democracy project with Ireland, organized the Non-traditional poetry readings “On the island …”, organized event 1 to grade 4 students „Variations on the EU “, in October launched the project of EU membership in the international Internet Award 2010 in conjunction with the Netherlands and Romania (work was completed in April), the school organized youth sports Stylish hour, held movie night … In june Club „House” unit “Stairs” command received EU Internet Award 2010 certificate for the project “Integration, an Answer to Exclusion”, undertaken in conjunction with the accession of Romania and the Netherlands youth teams, and a letter of thanks from the project organizers. Gaujiena high school’s name is heard and has become more visible in Europe.
