Wohnprojekt Hasendorf

„Wohnprojekt Hasendorf“ (translated: co-housing Bunny Village) is a community residential project, to which environment and nature are very important issues. It consists of 25 adults and 16 children. Our property is located in Hasendorf / Lower Austria (municipality Sitzenberg-Reidling), 45 min from Vienna.

We try to experiment with new types of lifestyle inside our residential project: we want to share a lot.

Our vision is to live today as we all will need to live by 2050. And we want to show: Hey, we can actually have a GOOD LIFE while respecting the carrying capacity of our Planet. One key for that is sharing. Thus, we decided to have fully functioning but smaller individual flats and pool our resources on generous but still affordable shared spaces. We have a variety of community areas such as a community kitchen and -living room, a seminar room, a co-working space, a workshop, a guest room and many more.
Why? Soil sealing is responsible for the loss of valuable agricultural and fauna & flora habitat - each minute, 100sqm of soil are irrevocably sealed in Austria. In the EU about 1000sqKm are annually subject to land take for housing, industry, roads or recreational purposes- this corresponds to about the size of Berlin! With our building design we could lower our soil consumption to 22,7sqm/person compared to the average of 49,1sqm/person in Lower Austria!

Beside renting out its flats and its seminar room, the co-housing project Hasendorf has further goals, which get us closer to our vision of a „good life“ and a more environmentally friendly development of our region. One example is the initiation of a so called CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) by two members of the association (for more information go to http://www.ackerschoen.at/) The CSA is providing a good amount of organic vegetables for the people living in the residential project, as well as for approximately 50 households in the region and Vienna. Further we plan an e-mobility concept, which should connect our municipality with the railway station „Tullnerfeld“ (where we find a good train connection to Vienna and St. Pölten) and be opened for other village residents. Furthermore, we are initiating a membership shop, which sells organic local/regional products for a better price for its members (who in turn pay a monthly contribution helping to cover the fixed costs. More ideas and initiatives are currently in development.

We are a Lead and Hosting organization of the European Solidarity Corps and welcome volunteers from all ESC countries.

We like volunteers who like to get things done, that want to contribute for a better future. If volunteers like to get their hands dirty & do concrete work they are definitely at the right place (f.ex. at the CSA, where they can learn organic agriculture from seed to harvest - and eating ;-)
However, we also have a lot of work related to social media, video creation, workshop organisation, etc - so it's not only working with the hands, but also with the brain (and heart) - depending from the volunteer's preferences.

Especially, we want to host participants with fewer opportunities, in particular young LGBTQI persons, who have experienced discrimination (or even violence) in their home countries. We would therefore like to host volunteers that have suffered from homophobia and provide possibilities for personal growth & self-empowerment and a healing environment for the scars of the past. We would also initiate events for (young) LGBTQI people living in rural areas, where the volunteers are welcome to help with their energy & ideas.
