Tutmonda Esperantista Junulara Organizo (TEJO)

The World Esperanto Youth Organisation (TEJO) is a youth NGO founded in 1938 and located in Rotterdam, the Netherlands; it is an entirely youth-led organisation, with national branches in more than 40 countries. Since its foundations, TEJO has promoted intercultural understanding among young people, through meetings, educational programs and the use of the international, neutral language Esperanto.

We promote intercultural experience and dialogue, easing to youth the access to a network of international contacts, fostering friendships and comprehension and promoting equality using Esperanto as a neutral auxiliary language. The main activities of TEJO are:

– organisation of international and regional youth events, such as congresses, seminars, language and music festivals;
– publications and virtual platforms for active discussion about youth-related topics;
– trainings (online and offline) to increase the quality of youth work, encouraging mobility, participation in civil society and international exchange of know-how;
– information and advocacy on the topics of language rights, linguistic diversity and multilingualism.

While politically neutral and independent, TEJO has always taken an active stance against any kind of discrimination and supported many initiatives furthering this goal. The organisation has been a full and active member of UNITED for Intercultural Action, the International Coordination Meeting of Youth Organisations (ICMYO) and the European Youth Forum (YFJ) for many years and regularly sends delegates to their activities. In addition, TEJO is a member of the Task Force of the International Coordination Meeting of Youth Organisations, recently, a member of TEJO was nominated to an organ of the European Youth Forum and a member of TEJO was elected to the Advisory Council on Youth of the Council of Europe.
