The Turkish Language Association (Türk Dil Kurumu, TDK) is Turkey’s national public institution dedicated to the research, preservation, regulation, and promotion of the Turkish language. Established on July 12, 1932, under the guidance of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, TDK’s mission is to conduct scientific studies on written and spoken Turkish, ensure its proper use in all fields, and promote its richness and development.
TDK was originally founded as the Turkish Language Research Society (Türk Dili Tetkik Cemiyeti) by leading scholars and parliament members, and it has continuously evolved to support both academic research and practical applications of Turkish. Its early efforts included the compilation of dictionaries, language guides, and documentation of historical texts.
Today, TDK continues its work through research and application divisions covering areas such as Turkish grammar, dictionaries, terminology, dialects, education, Turkish literature, and sign language. It also publishes over 1,500 works, including the Turkish Language Journal, Yearbook of Turkish Language Research, and the Turkish World Language and Literature Journal, while collaborating with national and international institutions to support linguistic and cultural development.
TDK is committed to maintaining Turkish as a vibrant, well-documented language for education, science, literature, and culture, reflecting both historical depth and contemporary relevance.
