The National Council for Disability Affairs is the designate focal point within the Egyptian government for matters relating to the implementation of the present " UN Convention on the Rights of persons with Disabilities" and is responsible to give due consideration to the establishment or designation of a coordination mechanism within the Egyptian government to facilitate related action in different sectors and at different levels.
The council terms of reference include: -
Coordination between all ministries in disability related matters
Making census and statistics about the numbers of people with disability in Egypt
Holding conferences, seminars and training sessions to raise awareness of disability issues, and represent citizens with disabilities in forums and international conferences
Adopting policies and programs towards community-based rehabilitation
Proposing the state public policy and propose a draft national plan for the development and rehabilitation of people with disabilities
Expressing an opinion on draft laws, resolutions and international conventions.
Contributing to the development of standards and specifications of "Accessibility"
Monitoring the implementation of laws and regulations for people with disabilities in all bodies of the state
Supervising and supporting DPOs' activities
