The Civic Resource Centre was established in 2006 to support, promote and develop civic consciousness and initiative in the spirit of proactive democracy at individual, community and regional levels.
Democracy is the main topic of interest, as we provide independent observers for the elections in the region. As well, we work with local authorities and (re)shape Local Agenda 21, by conducting public consultation processes. Further more, we help youth better understand the mechanism, role and structure of the local administration, by organizing debates and info sessions, where they can meet the mayor and local councillors.
Our recent focus is on migrants and migration, as more and more people come to work and live in Dobrudja, the region in Romania on the Black Sea coast, where the association has its offices. We operate a Migrant Information Centre for over 1 year already, where we inform the migrants in Constanta about their rights in Romania, and help them to better integrate into the community. We provide free Romanian language courses, or legal counseling. Multiculturalism is one of the main assets of the region, as there are 26 ethnic groups among only 700,000 people. Therefore, the Civic Resource Centre works also with multicultural communities.
