The BIG Project supports children and young people aged 5-18 years and living in the Broomhouse area of Edinburgh to learn, achieve, have fun and feel good about themselves through the provision of well resourced, integrated, flexible and coordinated activities.
We compensate for the level of neglect and abuse that many of the children and young people encounter. We provide access to caring and nurturing relationships, supporting children and young people to, address and resolve difficulties in a safe and supported environment, set and achieve personal goals and to gain recognition for their achievements. We achieve this through the provision of an innovative programme of personal and social development promoting activities and interests not as an end in themselves but as part of a wider developmental process to raise aspirations, increase self-esteem and develop life skills.
The BIG Project :-
• offers opportunities for personal growth through which children and young people can develop life skills, confidence and self esteem
• recognises, respect and encourage the initiatives of children and young people
• delivers a variety of informal education activities, programmes and experiences, which are recreational, social and fun!
• challenges children and young people’s actions, attitudes and words whilst encouraging them to realise the consequences of these
•provides ways for children and young people to express their views and be heard
