The Association of Friends of School "Pro Europa"

The Association of Friends of School „Pro Europa” was established in 2009 ( it is registered by court). The members are teachers of Schools no 5 in Tychy. Within almost two years we supported a lot of school activities. We funded prizes in school competitions, we gave financial support which enabled poor students to participate in the trips to the theatre in Cracow ( we paid for the tickets and transport). We also organized seminars on the menace of drinking ( with a psychologist ) and dangers connected with driving a car after drinking alcohol ( with a policeman). In November 2009 we started a cooperation with Galicia Jewish Museum in Cracow which enabled us to bring to school the exhibition ‘Sala`s letters”. The exhibition is devoted to Holocaust. It was visited by almost 300 students from local secondary schools. We supported the action of blood donating among our students. We also apply for public funds. We support the course of First Medical Help for 20 students which is organized every year.
In 2010 we started cooperation with the organization UNITED for Intercultural Action and we continue. We commemorate International Day Against Fascism and Anti-Semitism on November 9.
In May 2011 we hosted Carl Wilkens with the lecture on genocide in Rwanda which was possible thanks to our cooperation with the USA embassy in Poland.
We participate ( our students as volunteers) in many activities organized by the local authorities, among others our students work voluntarily in the hospice.
Every year I personally with a group of local secondary schools organize and participate in The March of The Living in Auschwitz (last seven years and I hope this year again).
In the school I work ,there are also classes which we call (the translation is mine) Primary Education for adults. These students dropped out of standard educational system and these classes allow them to complete primary education and give a chance to learn a job. This year we received funds from the city council to organize for them extra activities and a three-day trip to the mountains. For most of them this will be the first trip they will participate in.
