The Spartan Studies Society is a newly formed non profit organization based on the historic city of Sparta in Greece. S.S.S. is dedicated to the tryptich “Culture-Nature-Empowerment”, trying to engage the local population and especially the youngsters to the protection of the cultural and natural heritage at a local, national and european level. S.S.S. has in its ranks 10 active members and 30 volunteers across the broader region of Laconia.
Sparta has a longstanding tradition of being a place in which frugality is the link between culture, nature and social emporwement. Having in mind this ancient biotheory we aim to:
-explore, conserve and protect the cultural and natural environment of Sparta,
-promote a sustainable low-impact economic model, based on environmental-friendly entrepreneurship,
- mobilise the youngesters to meet people from different cultural and social backgrounds, overcome bariers and stereotypes and exchange ideas and good practices,
- foster the idea of a common European identity in the context of the European Union.
With Sparta as a standing point, S.S.S. hopes to connect its voice with other small local communities and raise awareness on cultural conservation, environmental preservation and social integration.
