Skjalfandi youth center is in a small but vibrant community situated in one of Iceland's most beautiful and culturally rich regions.
The youth participating in the youth center's work come from a mixed background in the rural municipality of Thingeyjarsveit, a region known for its history and myth, rich culture, natural wonders and agriculture steeped in tradition.
As a youth center we aim to help the youth build stronger foundations for their own personal growth.
This we do by focusing on projects and work organized around:
- Democracy and active participation
- Empathy and inclusiveness
- Equality
- Intrapersonal growth
- Nature and environmental issues
- Activities that strengthen individual interests and talents, such as: arts, sports/movement, communication, theater etc.

We mainly offer activities for youth from age 12-16 although we are building towards a wider age range. We would very much like to build partnerships, take part in projects and exchange experience. The youth has a fun and unique perspective, living in a rural setting on an island at the edge of the world, while yet having embraced modern times and technology like no generation before them.
