Serbia on the Move

Since its foundation, the association is offering and leading community organizing workshops, using grassroots organizing model developed by the American activist, organizer and Harvard professor Marshall Ganz. The methodology is based on prof. Ganz’s learning course, “Leadership, Organizing and Action.”
An integral part of the association are the clubs which are organised units with formal character, through the territory of the whole republic of Serbia. There are 12 local clubs in 12 different cities around Serbia. All members work in accordance with the principles and values of the organisation on the voluntary bases. In total, Serbia on the Move has a network of approximately 240 members and 5 members of the core team.
Main activities of Serbia on the Move are trainings, workshops, mentoring programs and seminars through which our members engage in:

Advocating for respect for democracy, the rule of law, diversity, and solidarity, and eliminate institutionalised inequalities for successful social inclusion
Promoting access for all to the resources, rights and services needed to participate in society
Participating in local, national, and international activities to actively promote the civic participation with similar public and private organisations
Promoting and committing to the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, including equality, freedom from discrimination, and freedom of thought, opinion, and expression
Fostering democratic participation of citizens in decision-making processes
Some of the national civic campaigns Serbia on the Move has carried out:

“In the name of culture”, public advocacy campaign to create emergency around the national initiative previously submitted to the parliament. The campaign had a goal to amend laws to limit the broadcasting of the reality show programs on the national television due to excessive violence that occurs in these types of shows. More than 150 people were involved as volunteers in the campaign, through community organising methodology, and became the actors of real change in practice.

“The Real Say on Policy” campaign focused on organising the conferences for citizens where the public policies in the field of human rights and civic freedoms were analysed in order to create the conditions for improving regulations and policies in various areas for society to better respond to the needs of the citizens.

Serbia on the Move has been involved as a partner organisation in the following projects:

“Zero tolerance for corruption in the Serbian health care system” through which the citizens were encouraged to report the corruption in the health care system and evaluate the doctors on the website create and funded by the project, and thus reinforce strong civic dialogue and participation in resolving this issue.

“Volunteers as a force of solidarity in times of crisis” project focusing on volunteerism development and opening space for dialogue in opinions about the role of volunteers during the refugee crisis and in the process on their integration.
