Sea Teach S.L.

We at Sea Teach are a tourism SME, based in Cala D’or on the south-east coast of Mallorca. Our business is a Motor Yacht Charter Agency and a Sea School, we therefore have first hand experience with tourism and with the problems of high and low season tourism. Especially in our part of Mallorca, which is lacking infrastructural links to the airport and the main town of Palma de Mallorca, tourism virtually stops at the end of October and only starts again around Easter. During that time 95% of all hotels, bars, restaurants and service providers close and the towns become “ghost town”. Apart from that, even in the mid-season like September and June many companies run at a loss, as the number of tourists is not sufficient.
As a consequence we and other tourism related businesses in our area have had meetings with our local administration, who are very supportive in promoting more low season tourism.
Also, we at Sea Teach have been operating since 1999 here in Mallorca, but our staff consists of “ex-pats” (foreign residents) from Germany and the UK. We therefore also have close connections to other German and British residents here in our area (as well as other Nationalities like Swiss, French and Dutch). A large proportion of the foreign residents here are retired seniors. We could therefore offer to provide research in the form of questionnaires or interviews, to find out their motivations, needs, aims and problems.
Although probably not the worst affected area in Spain, also Mallorca suffered from the collapse of the building boom, and also here quite a few empty building projects can be found as well as a strong negative effect on the labour market with regard to new construction. This is especially important as it was the counterbalance for the extreme high and low seasons here, as it provided work opportunities in the winter for staff that worked in the tourism sector in the summer.
Furthermore we can offer experience in EU projects: We have coordinated and partnered in both Lifelong Learning Programme and Erasmus + projects and currently active in five projects at this time. (March 2017). We are also experienced in project management and one member of our team is a regular FP7 evaluator.
