Risnjak National Park

Risnjak National Park is situated in the North-Western part of the Gorski kotar region, which is a mountainous region with intensive demographic depopulation. The National Park Risnjak was founded in 1953 and nowday it covers an area of 6.350 ha.
At the head of the Public Institution, founded by the Republic of Croatia, is the Governing Board, which submits reports to the Ministry of the Economy and Sustainable Development on its work and on the work of the Institution. The head of the Institution is the director. The institution performs its activity as a public service through three internal organizational units: The Service for Protection, Preservation and Use of the National Park, the Park Ranger Service and the Service for General Affairs.
Primary values of the Park are the conserved forest ecosystems and the Kupa source. From its inception it has been dedicated to nature protection and conservation. The National Park also has a scientific, cultural, educational and recreational dimension. Institution's activities encompass protection, conservation and promotion of Risnjak National Park with the objective of safeguarding and preserving the authenticity of its natural environment, ensuring that natural processes proceed unimpeded and that natural resources are used sustainably and overseeing all nature protection criteria and measures in the territory it administers.
Through its daily activities, the Public Institution communicates with the local population and visitors, and other users of the National Park, e.g. visitors, pupils, young students, researchers and other. PI also conduct educational program like Forest pedagogy for elementary school children and guided tours on educational trails for all age groups.
