Public Library of Hiiu Municipality
The library is designed to ensure free and unrestricted access to information, knowledge and culture, and to promote lifelong learning and self-improvement.
Library activities is to borrow books and magazines, to help citizens find information about both domestic and foreign sources and databases, organize training courses, events, exhibitions and other activities.
Public Library of Hiiu Municipality as a county library that provides methodological guidance to other Hiiumaa county libraries, and organizes the work of the library staff training.
The library is the target audience for all the people of Hiiumaa and summer guests.
Activities:
Children: a library classes on various topics, meetings with writers, literary quizzes, book exhibitions.
The youth have events until the sixth grade. After that collaboration with schools lost. A part of young people visit further, most of them not. We want increase interest in book and library and offer to young people library attractive events.
Adults: travel impressions evenings, briefings, etc. in various fields.
For each target group held meetings with writers.
The library is not only a place to read or borrow books, but also fulfills a part of the youth center and hobby centre functions. Library priority is to find means and ways to expand activities to get young people off the streets, providing them with opportunities for self-development and the place where friends meet and interact.
In the library can play board games, there are computers to surf the Internet or play computer games.
