Os Especiais - Associação de Inclusão Social

The institution “Os Especiais – Association for Social Inclusion,” founded in October 2015 as a non-governmental organization (NGO), acquired the status of Private Institution of Social Solidarity (IPSS) in 2016.
Aiming to promote the integration of citizens with disabilities and impairments into society, it is governed by the principles of normalization, personalization, individualization, and well-being, as well as promoting the balance of the families of citizens with disabilities and impairments. Finally, its action aims to raise awareness and co-responsibility among civil society and the state, in its various forms, regarding the role they play in addressing the problems of citizens with disabilities and impairments, and their respective families (United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, CRPD), in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
We present a reference and innovative vision in addressing the social inclusion of people with disabilities and incapacities, specific needs, mental disorders and/or other associated diseases, their families and/or caregivers, creating responses in the development of skills, therapies, and methodologies, according to the specificity of each issue, with the mission of creating life projects with quality and dignity, in promoting and defending the rights of our target audience, fostering an inclusive society and active citizenship, working in network with similar institutions, Portuguese or foreign.
We invest in the preventive scope with (mis)information for Social Inclusion under institutional, constitutional, European, and global values, and under existing and current legislation and declarations, in early intervention for the development of individual, family, and social skills that promote autonomy and biopsychosocial well-being under a holistic view of intervention.
