Oikos Onlus

Oikos is an NGO created in 2005, composed by a group of people who decided to join their professional skills in different fields in order to work for the cooperation with the communities in the South of the world. Our idea of cooperation is a work made together with the poeple met along the way, in a world that belongs to everybody and where everyone has same rights and dignity. Beside international cooperation, Oikos supports awareness actions in the local community with the aim to create a culture opened to the values of solidarity and civil commitment and to create a fair trade economy and an open and intercultural society. Oikos has a managment committee composed by 5 people, one treauser, two auditors and about twenty affiliated and in May 2011 Oikos onlus has hired an employee for the first time.
The acronym Oikos stands for Organization for International Kooperation and Solidarity, summurizing in one name the hope for a a better world, for a system where the actions of one can help the activities of another, where what you are and what you do are more important than what you have and how you appear.
Oikos has promoted several development cooperation activities in the social, educational and economical field in some areas of the South of the world, together with awareness campains and education to the active citizenship and interculturality in the local community.
In the field of international cooperation, Oikos has realized several projects in the social, educational and agricultural field. The areas of intervenction have been: Sau Paulo du Brasil and Goias (Brasil, South America) and Kenia (Africa). All the projects have been co-finaced by the Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia.
At a local level, Oikos has carried out some awareness campains for the local communities about civic conmitment and interculturality working together with the local institutions, schools and other NGOs. All these activities have the aim to make the people understand the economical and social differences between the North and the South of the world, analyzing the different ways of living and their sustenibility related to human rights, intercultural dialogue and social cohesion in multicultural enviroments and to a active and responsible education.
