Navigatorcentrum

Navigatorcentrum are an organisation for young people aged 16-25 in Östersunds municipality, organised under the Municipality Administration, development/growth area. Our premises are centrally located and accessible. It is a meeting place where young people can have a coffee, use a computer or have a meeting with one of our eight coaches. Our main tasks is to find, meet and coach young people en route into adult life, with a particular focus on those who need extra support to find their way. To clarify; unemployed youth and a special focus is kept on long-term unemployed youth, youth receiving social service, immigrant/refugee-youth, disadvantaged youth, youth not in the school-system but also youth in general thinking about their future. All young people get a personal coach that give support through programs of introduction to a working life, various motivation-actions and guidance-counselling. We offer activities in forms of practical experience and work training, group activities, orientation courses, international activities trough youth in action. We act as an arena for cooperation for society’s various initiatives for the group. We must also highlight the needs of the target group and find collaborative solutions that generate synergy effects. Furthermore, we have taken a role of emphasising important issues that concern young people, drawing attention to deficiencies and shortcomings in rules and regulation where young people fall between two stools, and getting them to become more involved in society. Young people must be viewed as a resource. The steering groups consist of the heads of our collaborative partners, currently: The Social service department, The Adult education department, Integration service, The Public employment service, and Jämtland Upper secondary School association.

EVS is one of the activities we can offer to the youth and we have over the last 3 years sent around 20 volunteers to various projects both short terms and long term volunteers. We have experience and capacity to support and do preparations for the volunteers we send and we have also good knowledge to coordinate an EVS project. The reason why we work with Youth in Action and mostly EVS possibilities for youth is because we see this opportunity as one of the best possible way for young people to develop and raise their possibilities to get a job in the future. We want EVS to be a possibility for all youth in the county.
