Municipality of Stintino

Stintino is a seaside town located in the north west of Sardinia, close to the island of Asinara.
The delights of Stintino and its beaches are well known to tourist across the world during summer time.
The Municipality of Stintino represents a small community of 1521 inhabitants. The municipality employs 13 people to manage the development and services for the town . Municipal duties and responsibilities cover different fields concerned local governments, services, community problems, needs and demands. Hence, the administration through its offices is involved in different issues in order to comply with all requirements demanded by the community and the territory. As a local authority the action covers a lot of thematic as education, social services, public services and a particular attention is paid to our potential sectors as tourism, environment, culture promotion and a particular attention is paid to youth . Indeed, during all year our administration is promoting some events aimed to the promotions of our tradition and cultural resources. In 2010 the Municipality of Stintino presented a project in the framework of European programme LIFE and it was approved. The project is aimed to improve the conservation status of priority habitats, Casaraccio pond, Stintino Salt marsh and four species of birds, the Little Egret (Egretta garzetta), the Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus), the Little Tern (Sternula albifrons) and the Common Tern (Sterna hirundo). The project involves the acquisition of land to restore and preserve habitat and construct artificial islands for nesting birds.
Furthermore, the Municipality organizes a lot of cultural festival during summer. An example is the Sea festival addressed to the town citizens and tourists, it includes a full range of cultural activities such as lectures, workshop for children, tour. A lot of countryside festivals aimed to promote local products such as fish and sea food take place during the year.
Beside of this we are trying to support, help and promote initiatives and projects for young people (students, young that hunting for a job and workers). In this regard the Municipality Council has been able to initiate dialogue with the local community with a view to solicit ideas and forge a shared vision for Stintino’s future. The Municipality is trying to carry out projects focused on encouraging youngsters and their creativity. We believe that Erasmus plus offers opportunities for youngsters, institutions, associations, to create safer, more welcoming communities in a European context.
