Municipality of San Damiano d'Asti

San Damiano d'Asti, with a population of about 8.400 inhabitants, is a small town located in the Asti province, in the region of Piemonte, in the North of Italy. The hills of the area (Monferrato) are planted with orchards, meadows and vineyards: they are the main economic engine od the town, mainly devoted to agricolture and renowned for the production of grapes, honey and truffles. There are also small and medium textile and food enterprises. San Damiano has a strong and rich cultural, historical, artisan and artistic heritage. It is one of the seven municipalities participating in the "Palio of Asti", a horse race with horses mounted without a saddle. San Damiano won the Palio in 2011. Throughout the year San Damiano organizes numerous events: the second weekend of September it participates to the Asti's "Festival delle Sagre Astigiane", a celebration of local traditions with typical dishes and wines. Also the "Palio dei Borghi" is held in San Damiano: races includes football, beach volley, bowls, dance and bicycles matches. Since 2012, every third weekend of June, the Municipality of San Damiano hosts the "Fuoriluogo Festival", a cultural event that mixes music, visual arts, literature and other creative forms of art.
