mobilita.org

"Mobilita Palermo" is a cultural association founded in 2010 and still active in Palermo (Italy).
It proposes a sharing manner from bottom to make information and to aware people on the issues of sustainable mobility, civic sense and territorial development through the use of the web and the creation of innovative activities for engagement.

Built on a community of hundreds of thousands of users, mobilita.org has become a reference point for the cities involved in the network, constituting itself as a promoter of ideas and virtual laboratory of citizens, also recognized by the local institutions and the media.

Mobilita Palermo believes in civic culture as a reboot for a general redevelopment of the area. Because of this, among many activities, it devotes much attention to the involvement of schools and universities, with a focus on raising awareness on future generations and on identifying specific expertise among the many excellences in the area. Here there are some of the projects in this field:

D.I.M.M.I. (Italian acronym for: We decide together Innovative models of mobility) a project to raise awareness towards the use of sustainable practices in the context of mobility financed by the Regione Siciliana, which involved the schoolmates of the middle school "Don Milani" di Palermo in a workshop for the redefinitions of ' use of space in the neighborhood "Sperone", and the students of IE School Of Architecture of Segovia (Spain) in a workshop for the redevelopment of areas of the south coast of Palermo.

A scuola di Open Coesione: promoted by the Ministry of Education, University and Research. Within this project, in 2013-14 and in 2014-15 Mobilita Palermo has been selected as a partner to assist two classes of high school in the realization of creative activities based on the retrieval of data and information and in the communication of project results.

Mobilita Palermo has gained experience in civic participation and organization of events for the dissemination of knowledge and civic culture through social games. Here there are some of the projects in this area:

- Treasure hunt: gaming event which sees teams of people to compete in a series of specific tests (from sport to environment to culture, etc.) in order to know their own territory in an innovative and fun way;

- Virtual Bikers: an intelligent software which sees the cooperation between a pair of bicycles used at place, connected to a smart sensor which detects in real time the speed and other statistical data, projected to the screen on a virtual map that shows the progress of the position of those who ride on a path preloaded. The event namesake saw each challenging team in a competition with prizes in order to beat the best travel time;

Mobilita Palermo for scientific research.

With the project "muovity", funded by the Ministry of Education, University and Research through the public notice "Smart cities and communities and social innovation", the association has taken care of a research project developing an online platform for practicing carpooling through the game, with an incentive to use sustainable practices of mobility by users through the winning of awards and certification steps and users, guaranteed safety in use.

Mobilita Palermo was entered as Proposer in the "Vademecum nazionale per le Smart Cities" drawn by the ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities).

Mobilita Palermo is now part of the Commission on Urban Mobility in the city of Palermo announced by the government in 2015. It brings its contribution by conveying the opinion of citizens on the most important urban issues at meetings with councilors and municipal officials.

Mobilita Palermo makes web presence its strength. He has created a format to allow all residents to be monitored by sharing textual and multimedia material and it is now able to reach thousands of citizens via photos and video reports, discussions and events.

A very important result was achieved in 2015, when the format was repeated in another city of Sicily, Catania.
