The National Education Foundation is, abbreviated as MEV, granted with tax exemption privilege by a decree of the Council of Ministers in 1986.

Overall objective of the MEV is to be one of the leading NGOs, especially one of key foundations, that provide upmost support to the national education and vocational education and training (VET). In this regard, in terms of quality and quantity, MEV aims to ensure such a contemporary education and training to meet social, economic and cultural needs of whole community at all levels by ensuring respect to human rights, co-existence, equipping the citizens with innovative approach, added-value skills and virtue of protection of constitutional order and democratic republic administration.

Head office of MEV is located in Ankara since it was established. At the present, 5 private schools covering kindergartens, primary and middle and high schools are operated in Ankara, İstanbul and İzmir provinces together with 4.890 students and over 800 teaching and administrative staff.

According to the MEV philosophy, everyone should access education and training opportunities without any discrimination such as ethnic origin, language, religion, belief, gender or social status.

In this direction, the MEV steadily supports research and development (R&D) studies; it aims to enable students and teachers to access necessary written and electronic sources, particularly publications by equipping all schools with contemporary labs, materials, equipment and tools. Plus, MEV provides financial assistance and in-kind contributions to needy students, teachers and their families.

Number of the MEV real estates is 305 throughout the country. 147 of those maintain rental income to the MEV, amount of the said income was 14.085.773,94 TRL in the year of 2023.

As of 30 May 2024, total cash of/in the MEV and its affiliated entities bank accounts are 393.427.327,87 TRL.

Regarding balance of payments of the MEV for the year of 2023;

So far, MEV has invested around 2 billion TRL in the education sector in Türkiye by constructing 146 schools, 5 teacherages, 7 dormitories etc. through various donors and their contributions. MEV has granted over 27.000 needy students with scholarships and all living and education costs of over 1.800 students have been covered by MEV and this policy and facility are still in progress.

MEV has distributed 10 million pcs dental care sets and 5.000 pcs chess sets to the students in order to make tangible contributions into their physical, healthy and mental developments.

MEV has been taking active roles in helping earthquake victims on and after the 1999 Marmara Earthquake by maintaining various types of financial and in-kind assistance.

Consequently, the award of the foundation of the year was presented to the MEV twice by the General Directorate of the Turkish Foundation; many plaques of appreciation were given by the Turkish Presidents such as Mr. Kenan EVREN, Mr. Süleyman DEMİREL, Mr. Abdullah GÜL, Turkish National Education Ministers and a few provincial governors such as Ankara, İstanbul, Erzurum due to MEV’s tangible contributions into the education and training sectors of Türkiye.

Last congress (44th Plenary Session) of MEV held on May 2023 in Ankara in order to reshape Executive Board and set roadmap for the next term. Current Executive Board members are as followings:

Mr. Salih ÇELİK, President of the Executive Board. He was the Deputy Undersecretary of the Turkish Ministry of National Education (MoNE) between 2003-2016. He has taken active roles in the project management and coordination since 1990.

Mr. Hakkı GÜNGÖR, Vice-President of the Executive Board,

Mr. Serdar KILIÇ, Mr. Ömer BALIBEY, Mr. Yusuf BÜYÜK, Mr. Remzi SEZGİN, Mr. Mehmet TEMEL, Mr. Metin YARAMAN and Mr. Osman Nuri FİLİZ are other members of the MEV Executive Board.

Mr. Orhan EKİNCİ is the General Director and around 800 staff are employed at MEV head office and its affiliated entities that are private kindergartens, primary, middle and high schools, teacherages and dormitories in 3 metropolitan cities that are Ankara, İstanbul and İzmir provinces.

In the MEV colleges (high schools), the Cambridge International Programme has been adopted to enable teachers and students to increase success level in Mathematics, English and the Physical Sciences since the 2018-2019 academic year in line with the Cambridge Assessment International Education curriculum.

Our middle and high school students have participated in the International “Caribou Contest”, “Kangaroo”, “Tales”, “Matbeg” and Waterloo” mathematics competitions organized online worldwide.

In the past, high schools of MEV have implemented a few grant projects as partners. For example, in the 2022-2023 academic year, by the İstanbul - Basınköy MEV College Anatolian and Science High Schools, an e-Twinning project called ‘’Upcycling Designs’’, which received both the ‘’National Quality Label’’ and the ‘’European Quality Label’’ award. In the 2023-2024 academic year, the Multidisciplinary Stem Skills and The Sky is the Limit & Motivation to Learn eTwinning projects are carried out by the mentioned school by focusing on 21st century skills by using web 2.0 tools in lessons.

Another e-twinning project called “My Favourite Book” and aimed to introduce the books that students read and like the most is carried out by 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade students and English teachers of the MEV İzmir-Güzelbahçe College Primary and Secondary Schools.

the MEV İzmir-Güzelbahçe College Anatolian High School has applied as a partner in the 2024 Erasmus+ project called "Antropo-Stage". This project aimed to create a safe space where young people can collectively cope with climate crisis and promote resilience and a proactive approach to challenges. In order to achieve this goal, strategies will be implemented to provide teachers with psychological support methodology and artistic techniques together of Turkish, Bulgarian, Slovenian, Italian and German partners.

Our robotics team MEVOLUTION, consisting of our Anatolian High School-Science High School students of the İstanbul-Büyükçekmece college, took part in the 2nd Alliance in the FRC Bosphorus Regional global tournaments held at the Volkswagen Arena between 27-29 March 2023 in İstanbul. Our team, which left its mark on the scoreboard with its robots named "EVO", won the "CREATIVITY AWARD" award.

14 students studying at the 12th grade Anatolian-Science High School of the MEV İzmir - Bornova MEV College, which has the Cambridge International School accreditation, have successfully received a total of 25 acceptances from the University of Glasgow, which is among the world's top 100 universities; the University of East London, one of the United Kingdom's 126-year-old long-established and prestigious universities; the Arizona State University, Kettering University and Stony Brook University, which are among the most prestigious universities in the United States; and the University of Stirling, one of the best state universities in the United Kingdom.

Within the scope of the International Education Service Procurement Agreement, our students participate in monthly, semester or annual student exchange programs in schools in Canada, can receive another second high school diploma from Canada with a one-year Exchange Program after high school graduation, or can complete their undergraduate education in Canada by using their exam-free transfer rights. Our students who participate in semester or annual student exchange programs in schools in the United States can continue their education where they left off.

On 13 December 2024, MEV submitted a grant project proposal to the UNICEF by using eCN on this link https://ecn.unicef.org to fill the concept note by focusing on Enhancing Employability and Skills Development Among Vulnerable Adolescents and Young People, Ref: CEF/TUR/2024/001. This project proposal, whose title is “Zero NEET: Skills Development for Pre-NEETs and Digital Learning for NEETs”, aimed pre-NEETs and NEETs to make them equip with e-commerce skills through various teaching, training and mentoring programmes.

In brief, administrative, technical, academic/expertise and financial capacities of the Milli Eğitim Vakfı (the National Education Foundation – MEV) are considered sufficient to implement various types of grant projects without any major risks by establishing multi-partnerships at domestic and global levels.
