Liceul de Arte Constantin Brailoiu, Tirgu Jiu

Established in 1958, Liceul de Arte is the only vocational Arts school in the Gorj district, in the south-west of Romania. With over 70 teachers and 500 students (aged 6 through 19), we specialize in Music (vocal, traditional, instrumental, theory), Visual Arts (painting, sculpture, graphics, architecture and design) and Drama (acting and pantomime) and we are very much involved in the life of our community.

We have ongoing partnerships with the town’s Dramatic Theatre, the Philarmonic “Lira Gorjului”, the county’s History and Arts Museums and other cultural institutions, and many of our students participate in local and national contests and performances as proud ambassadors of our highschool. Moreover, our teachers and students often get involved in voluntary and social projects for various categories of beneficiaries like disadvantaged children, the elderly or young people with fewer opportunities.
As for our international experience, in recent years our students and teachers have taken part in numerous projects with partner schools from Serbia and Belarus (music shows and art exhibitions), France and Italy (drama and volunteering), Holland (with Andre Rieu’s orchestra), the US (traditional music and technology) and Canada (drama in French).

Our teachers are professional and experienced in their fields, dedicated to cultivating the minds of the young generation as well as their sensitive souls. The school's mission is that of developing the students’ whole personality by encouraging them to express their talent through the universal language of music and visual and performing arts. One of the practical outputs of such quality teaching is the emphasis on sharing our cultural values and experiences with people from other regions. We believe that a cross-cultural dialogue would teach our students invaluable lessons for life and inspire their future careers.
