Libera Palermo

Libera is a network of more than 1600 associations, social cooperatives, groups, schools and universities committed to build up organisational synergies between the political and cultural local realities capable of promoting a culture of lawfulness.
The areas of specific expertise and competence reached by Libera Palermo are:
- LIBERA EDUCATION: in schools Libera introduces various laboratories and workshops so that students can understand the subject of responsible citizenship by interactively participating. The goal is to provide them with an alternative to the life-style of mafia. Typical activities are different games and role-playng where youngsters have to solve problems similar to the ones of society.
LIBERA SPORT: is a tool to spread the values of sport amongst the younger generation. The goal is to promote sport as an exemplar of respect for each other and for oneself, to fight for respect of laws and against the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
LIBERA MEMORY AND JUSTICE: the Day of Memory and Commitment every year to commemorate the victims of the mafias and the presentations by the family members of the victims are all tools to make the existence and the consequences of the mafias more tangible and understandable.
LIBERA LANDS AND CONFISCATED PROPERTIES: the project Libera Terra (Libera Lands) is a project of cooperation - thanks to the law concerning the social use of confiscated property, associations and social cooperatives gained the right to use the confiscated properties to maintain social development. Organising youth exchanges and international work camps on these lands have all became instruments to reconstruct a social and economic system based on the practice of active citizenship and solidarity.
LIBERA INTERNATIONAL: Libera operates not only in Italy but at international level as well. With the association of Terra del Fuoco Libera has created F.L.A.R.E. (Freedom, Legality And Rights in Europe): a network of more than 50 associations and NGOs committed to fight aganist international organized crime and to pursuing the objectives of justice, lawfulness and human rights defense. Libera is also a member of the network ALAS (America Latina Alternativa Social).
